Tragic end  to schoolgirl

 A 16-year-old schoolgirl of a leading school in Kollupitiya committed suicide yesterday evening by jumping in front of a train that was slowing down to stop at the Kollupitiya station.

 Police media said that the schoolgirl from Panadura had been sitting at the Kollupitiya station for quite some time and she had suddenly jumped onto the railway track when the Maradana bound train from Kalutara was slowing down to stop at the station around 3.15 p.m.

 The Kollupitiya Minor Offence Branch Officer-in-Charge Sub Inspector J.D. Kumarasinghe told The Island, that the girl’s body was not badly mangled, but appeared to have  a slight wound on the forehead and bruises on the body as she had fallen between the tracks after the train had knocked her down.

 According to the police, she had been crying all day as told by her friends and she was a girl who normally travelled by a van but she had gone to the railway station yesterday after school and had been sitting there.
