Doc arrested  for child’s death

The Colombo magistrate (4) yesterday remanded a doctor, who had allegedly caused the death of a three -month- old child due to improper procedure followed by him while circumcising the victim, till June 10.


Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that the suspect, 47-year-old Mohammad Niyaz who owned a dispensary in the Maligawatta area had been arrested on Tuesday by the Maligawatta police.


The victim, Mohammad Hamdan of Meetotamulla, Wellampitiya, had been taken by his parents to the doctor concerned on May 29 for circumcision.


The victim did not recover after being injected with a drug.
