Dr. Padeniya gets threatening calls

By Norman Palihawadane

Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya, former President of the GMOA whose reelection has been annulled by the Mt. Lavinia District Judge yesterday said that he had been receiving threatening calls.

He told The Island he had not made a complaint to the police as it was a cumbersome process. "Some people have offered me cash to leave the country. Threats are natural because I am working for the people."

Dr. Padeniya was reluctant to reveal further information due to the injunction imposed on him.

But, he said he would not run away because of such threats and be would remain in the country of his birth, as he had a duty to serve it.
