Professor G. L. Peiris, Minister of External Affairs, during his official visit to India, met with the leadership of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Hyderabad. Shiv Kumar Rungta, President of the Federation, Anil Reddy Vennam, Senior Vice-President and R. Kulkarni, Head of the Membership Wing, called on the visiting Minister for an exchange of views.

They informed Prof. Peiris that the Federation of Chambers consists of 150 district units spread over the entire State of Andhra, and in total comprised more than 22,000 members. The parent body itself had a membership in excess of 3,000, they explained.

The officials of the Federation discussed with the Minister practical modalities for strengthening the economic relationship between Sri Lanka and Andhra. They were glad, they said, about the enthusiastic response from Sri Lanka to participation in the Trade and Tourism Fair to be held in Hyderabad later this week.

A substantial number of their own members were looking forward to visiting Sri Lanka in September to attend an investment forum, they said.
