The exact weight of the heroin retrieved from three plastic moulding machines imported from Pakistan was 93 kilos and 760 grammes with a street value of Rs. 656.32 million, Customs spokesman Leslie Gamini said yesterday.

Customs were retrieving heroin secreted in the three machines the previous night and they had only got one machines examined by the time yesterday’s edition went to press.

The importer had hired a registered company with Customs, Glamour Fashion, and it had been registered under general import category, which would pave the way to import anything, sources said.

Sources also said that the importer had hired the company’s name to smuggle heroin into the country and the company owner should be held responsible.

Gamini said that they would hand over the suspects to the Police Narcotic Bureau after their initial inquiry.
