The truth behind the attack on the then police constable Sumith Saman and arson attack on his Nano car while reporting to work on the night of May 30, will be known before the end of this week

Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that the investigation conducted by a special team of Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) had been concluded, but they were waiting for a few medical reports.

Asked whether any suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident as better part of the investigation was over according to him, theā€ˆSSP answered in the negative, noting that everything would be known on July 25, as the pending medical reports would be submitted to the Kalutara Magistrate.

The victim claimed that he had had a heated argument with Deputy Minister of Internal Trade and Cooperatives, Hemal Gunasekera on May 20, for booking the politician’s driver for exceeding the speed limit on the Southern Expressway.

In his statement to the police, police constable Suminda Saman, who stopped the deputy minister’s vehicle, subsequently complained to the police that he had been attacked and his car burnt by a gang.

PC Suminda recently tendered resigned from the Police Department, claiming that he had no faith in the police investigations into the incident and his life was in danger.
