Engineer’s reunion to foster engineering research

Engineers from Moratuwa and Peradeniya universities have joined hands to synergize collective strength of Sri Lankan engineers across the globe to collaborate and support engineering innovations and research in the country. Moratuwa Peradeniya Engineers Reunion was formed in 2013 with the above objective and Mora Pera Reunion 2014 and the Inaugural Moratuwa Peradeniya Reunion Oration will be held on August 2, 2014 at the Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS) auditorium in at University of Peradeniya.


Eng. Ranjith Premasiri Secretary Ministry of Ports and Highways, Chairman Road Development Authority and Chairman National Water Supply and Drainage Board, a distinguished engineer passed out from University of Peradeniya will be gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Inaugural Moratuwa Peradeniya Engineer’s Reunion Oration will be delivered by Eng. Dr. Priyath B. Wicrama, a distinguished graduate from University of Moratuwa. Oration followed by Reunion Lunch.


Eng. Damith Hettihewa, President of Mora Pera Engineer’s Reunion and Chairman Organizing Committee said , "The objective of the reunion is to create a common meeting and networking platform for engineers from the country’s two prestigious engineering faculties, and now spread across the world. One of the noble and long term ambitions of the Mora Pera reunion is to synergize the collective strength of Sri Lankan engineers across the globe to create a fund to support engineering research and innovations in the country. We plan to launch the research support fund at this year’s reunion and this will be small beginning of a much longer journey to support engineering innovations in the country.


"It is expected to be a great opportunity for engineers from various generations to re-establish contacts and network. The outcome of such collaborations will no doubt enhance their collective contribution to the Sri Lankan society. This is a very timely initiative. Being an engineering graduate from University of Moratuwa, I look forward to meet my batch mates as well as fellow engineers from both universities. said Eng. Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, Patron of Mora Pera Engineers Reunion and Chairman of Securities Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka.


Eng. Nihal Rupasinha Chairman of Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB) which employs more than 800 engineers and Patron of Mora Pera Engineers Reunion representing Peradeniya Engineers, commented ,"In our professional lives , we build concrete bridges and robust power or communication networks. I believe as engineers, we need to build stronger bridges between leading engineering institutions and create influential professional networks among engineers in order to facilitate greater collaboration. As we are aware, larger percentage of Sri Lankan engineers work and live aboard.
