The JVP would neither conduct any processions nor use loudspeakers on the day when it handed over its nomination lists for Uva Provincial Council election, party General Secretary Tilvin Silva said yesterday.

Silva said that the JVP would hand over the nominations for the Badulla and Moneragala Districts tomorrow (05), when the GCE (A/L) examination commences. Their entire campaign strategy had been mapped out in such a way that it would not cause any hindrance to the students sitting the A/L examination, he said.

The UPFA and the main Opposition party had already started noisy propaganda campaigns, the JVP General Secretary said.

He said that his party had not nominated any criminals to contest elections and the nomination lists had been vetted by JVP politburo member K. D. Lal Kantha, Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath and the General Secretary.

The JVP had already conducted 150 pocket meetings in the Badulla District and 100 in the Moneragala District, Silva said, adding that they would discuss people’s problems identified at pocket meetings after handing over the nominations.

The JVP heavyweight said that they would conduct another 300 pocket meetings in the Badulla District and 200 in the Moneragala District after closing of nominations on August 06.

Silva said the JVP had also planned 30 main rallies in the Badulla District and 20 in the Moneragala District during its campaign drive.

"In addition, we will conduct a door-to-door campaign and use other publicity methods in keeping with the election laws," Silva said.
