Velayuthan to replace Harin in Parliament

Badulla District UNP MP Harin Fernando is scheduled to resign from Parliament today (05) to contest the forthcoming Uva Provincial Council. The vacancy would be filled by K. Velayuthan of the UNP, party source said yesterday.

MP Fernando is scheduled to make a special statement in parliament today with regard to his resignation and on decision to give up parliament seat to be his party’s chief ministerial candidate of the Uva Province.

UNP secured two seats in the 2010 general election from Badulla District with Harin Fernando polling 49,073 preferential votes and Lakshman Seneviratne polling 31,560 preferential votes. K. Velayuthan of the Lanka Jathika Estate Workers Union contesting under the UNP ticket came third in the list polling 25,056 preferential votes.
