The sixth edition of the Jaffna International Trade Fair(JITF) to be held in January next year, would be a good opportunity for investors to explore the vast potential that remained largely untapped in the peninsula, the Managing Director of Lanka Exhibition and Conference Serivces (LECS) Arjun Dharmadasa said yesterday.

He,told "The Island" that the JITF had grown rapidly over the last five years and its sixth edition which would run from January 23 to 25, 2015 at the historic Durayappah stadium, will offer greater opportunities for entrepreneurs and businesses to operate in an environment which was conducive for both long and short term investment.

The ongoing infrastructure development was a welcome boost,Dharmadasa said adding that ease of doing business had also improved with the construction of new roads, bridges and the provision of electricity to many remote areas.

The Jaffna peninsula was considered to be amongst the most lucrative destinations in the country for trade and commerce since the end of a near three decade long civil war. It,had provided many avenues for private commercial enterprises to make inroads into a vast market with immense potential,he observed.

President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Yarlpanam,K.Poornachandran who has been associated with the exhibition since its inception said that participants were assured of good short and long term returns, as JITF had always attracted the leading players as well as up and coming businesses in fields ranging from construction to apparel, agriculture, hospitality, food and beverage, packing, automobile, ICT and financial services.

The CEO of LECS,Asim Mukthar said that the hallmark of JITF, was that both the participants and visitors had always got value for money.

"We have doubled our efforts and are expecting to stage the biggest ever international trade fair in the Jaffna Peninsula. There would also be entertainment in the form of musical shows and a wide range of delicious food to cater to the large numbers expected to visit the fair", he noted while emphasizing that ultimately it was the people at large who would benefit.
