by Dilanthi Jayamanne

The Professions Supplementary to Medicine (PSM) yesterday warned of a continuous strike from August 26 to pressure the health Ministry to grant six of their demands including the implementation of class and grade promotions.

PSM General Secretary, Saman Jayasekara said that more than 400 PSM personnel had been awaiting Class One promotions since 2006. The Cabinet was yet to approve the implementation of the promotion scheme. The last time the PSM were given promotions was in 2005, he said.

PSM members who had been in service for 12 years were entitled to Class One promotions, he said.

Teh PSC demands included Supra Grade and Special Grade promotions. The scheme of recruitment needed to be changed or amended for its inclusion. He said that those who had completed ten years of service were entitled to it. Nurses had already got Supra Grade promotions, he said.
