Public, semi-government and Private Sector Trade Union Alliance will stage a protest opposite the Fort Railway Station tomorrow over several demands including a salary increment of Rs. 10,000.

Convener of the Alliance Saman Rathnapriya told The Island that they had decided to stage a protest as the National Salaries and Cadre Commission did not respond to their letter requesting a discussion on August 13.

He said that according to the Cost of Living index of the government, all employees needed at least a salary increment of Rs. 10,000.

"At present most allowances are not taken into consideration in calculating the pension, EPF or ETF," Rathnapriya said adding that they demand that all allowances be added to the basic salary.

Rathnapriya said the present system of recruitment through manpower agencies had to be discontinued forthwith.

More than 45 trade unions representing health, education, posts, railway, printing, public management, estate, fisheries, insurance and private sector would participate in tomorrow’s protest, Rathnapriya said.
