Situation in National Hospital improves following court order

"There is an improvement, but not all of them have returned to work," said Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Director of the National Hospital, summing up the situation in the hospital following a `return to work’ court order.

"There is an improvement and specifically pharmacists have informed over the telephone that they will make arrangements to dispense drugs at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL). Today, they came for a while and dispensed drugs", he said.

He was responding to a question on whether the situation at the national hospital had improved following the restraining order issued on the island-wide strike of the Joint Council of the Professions Supplementary to Medicine.

"The immediate need was for the dispensing of drugs. As for other services such as radiology and laboratory services we had alternate arrangements with the private sector but where drugs are concerned we have to rely on our own stocks", added Dr. Jasinghe.

"I believe that the Ministry has made an official announcement and are taking steps to communicate the court order to the strikers and particularly they are trying to get through to all the leaders of the Joint Council of the Professions Supplementary to Medicine", he further said.
