The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Organiser for Vavuniya, Alva Pulle Vijendrakumar alias Sun Master wanted by police in connection with the ongoing investigation into an alleged plot to furnish false information to UN war crimes investigation team has escaped to India.

Well informed sources alleged that Vijendrakumar had left Negombo in a boat on Thursday.

The police and intelligence services have been looking for him in the wake of a person by the name of Sinnathamby Krishnarasa being arrested on Oct. 25 with 25 blank UN war crimes complaint forms. Of the 25 forms, six had been signed by individuals affected by eelam

war IV, sources said, adding that Krishnarasa claimed that he received the UN forms from Vijendrakumar on Oct 22 at 3 pm at the Vavuniya bus stand.

However, the TNA said that Vijendrakumar wasn’t a representative of the party or a member of the alliance. The five-party alliance insisted that there was no basis for allegations made by the government as regards TNA plot to furnish false information to UN investigators.

A team of investigators under the leadership of UN official Ms Sandra Beidas, formerly of the Amnesty International was inquiring into accountability issues in Sri Lanka.

Sources said that as Vijendrakumar had been in touch with several Western diplomats his arrest could have shed light on the ongoing project to substantiate war crimes allegations. A senior security official said that Vijendrakumar’s arrest could have exposed those who initiated the scheme.

The Geneva-based United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) adopted a US resolution supported by a group of countries last March to initiate an external investigation though Sri Lanka strongly opposed to the move.

Prof. G.L. Peiris on Nov 4 briefed Colombo based diplomats of countries backing war crimes probe on Lanka as regards TNA-UN complicity in ‘producing’ unsubstantiated allegations.
