The Sri Lanka Pavilion at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London was inaugurated by Deputy High Commissioner, Chamari Rodrigo and Sri Lanka Tourist Board (SLTB) Managing Director, Rumy Jauffer.

The event organized by SLTB in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Trade Department concluded last week. WTM, an annual global event, was held at the Excel Exhibition Hall in London from November 3 – 6.

Tourism Promotional Officer in London Nalin Perera said that this time the Sri Lanka Pavilion featured a wild life theme. Elephants gathering at the Minneriya reservoir and whale watching were the main attractions.

There were 58 participants from Sri Lanka at the WTM Sri Lanka Pavilion to promote their travel and tourism businesses. Visitors to the pavilion were treated with a cup of Sri Lankan tea to promote Ceylon Tea.

WTM was first started in London in 1980 at the Olympia Exhibition Hall in London. It was ceremonially opened by the Duke of Kent. In 1992, WTM was moved to Earl’s Court Exhibition Hall. In 2002, it was moved to Excel Exhibition Hall where it is now held annually.
