Ornamental Fish Trade Conference under way

Sri Lanka's first International Ornamental-Fish Trade Conference which takes place today and tomorrow in Colombo is scheduled to go live as it happens, signifying the industry's export-surge by 41% year-on-year.


Gerald Bassleer, renowned international Fish Pathobiologist who has been working in the ornamental fish industry since 1977, has undertaken to lead the sessions.


Minister Bathiudeen, who is currently participating at Geneva's UNIDO session, sent his celebratory message to the event, and said: "Being a well-known island, Sri Lanka has a fisheries tradition that goes back centuries and lately, this sector including ornamental fish has been identified as an important part of the economy in terms of employment generation, food security and foreign exchange earnings.
