Dengue cases exceed 36,600November 12, 2014, 11:18 pm

The Epidemiology Unit yesterday revealed that the number of dengue patients in the country had exceeded 36,600 by the second week of November. That was in contrast to the total number of cases reported by the end of December last year—32,063.
They said that the highest number of cases this year had been reported in June (6,736). In May, July and October 4,292, 5,671 and 4,099 were reported respectively.
The death toll is not disclosed officially.
The number of dengue patients reported from other areas is: Colombo (11,854); Gampaha (6,543); Kalutara (2,300); Kandy (1,570); Jaffna (1,131); Kurunegala (1,892) and Kegalle (1,465).
Over 2,845 cases were reported from the Colombo City limits from January to November second week.
Last year 2,812 dengue cases were reported during period of eleven months.
Our attempts to contact the Consultant Physician of the National Dengue Control Programme, the Epidemiology Chief and Consultant Epidemiologist in Charge of the National Dengue Control Programme were in vain.
