‘Malicious rumours’:Intelligence DIG orders CID probe

By Hemantha Randunu

The head of the State Intelligence Service, DIG Chandra Wakista has complained to the Criminal Investigation Department and requested it to conduct an investigation into reports rumours spread by an organised gang to the effect that he (Wakista) was removed from the post along with some others.

The rumour was that he had been relieved of his post after the government found out that he had leaked to the public the percentages of votes that each party would obtain at the forthcoming Presidential election.

Wakista said that he had not done so and he had not been relieved of his post. Contacted for comment the senior police officer said that those responsible for spreading such false stories had defamed him. The CID has launched a special investigation.
