Deputy Solicitor General, Arjuna Obeysekera yesterday gave an undertaking to the Court of Appeal that the Legal Draftsman would shortly complete new regulations to prevent the pollution of the environment by the display of billboards, posters and hoardings, during election times.

The DSG appearing for the Attorney General made a respondent in a Writ Application filed by the Centre for Environmental Justice which had complained that the display of posters etc. during election time should not pollute the environment.

Ravindranath Dabare, the Counsel for the petitioner said that his client had perused the draft of the regulations and was satisfied with it.

He said in view of this satisfactory settlement, his client would withdraw the petition.

The proceedings were terminated.

The Bench comprised Justice Deepali Wijesundera.
