Health Ministry napping with nurses’ promotions, says GNOA

The Government Nursing Officers’ Association yesterday alleged that a large number of nurses who had 12 years in service had been denied their promotions as the Health Ministry had failed to issue the relevant circular.

GNOA President Saman Ratnapriya said that there were 8,000 nurses who had not received Class One promotions. The Cabinet paper submitted earlier had been approved. The Public Service Commission, too, had given its nod for it, but the Health Ministry had yet to issue the relevant circular, Ratnapriya said.

The delay had caused a delay in their salary increments as well, Ratnapriya said.

The GNOA President urged Health Ministry officials to take urgent steps to rectify the situation by issuing the circular without driving his union to trade union action. (DJ)
