One killed, three others injured in clash beween families

A dispute between two neighbouring families in the Naula police area ended in one person being killed and three others of the same family injured yesterday. Three suspects were arrested immediately following the incident.

One of the injured persons is said to be in a critical condition due to internal organs coming out from a deep cut in his abdomen. He is being treated at the Matale hospital.

The magistrate visited the crime scene.

Three suspects are a 54-year-old father, his brother (45) and his son (34).

According to police investigations, the heated argument had erupted after victims’ poultry had eaten up the seed paddy kept for drying on the ground by the suspects.

Officer-in-Charge of the Naula police station told The Island that they had beefed up security in the area with a four-man police team headed by a sub inspector to defuse tension.

The deceased was identified as Susantha Saman Kumara and the other victims were his two brothers and father. Saman’s father had left hospital against medical advice, police sources said.

The police had not yet found the knife used in the brutal stabbing of the four men. The suspects were to be produced before the Naula Magistrate yesterday evening.
