Renegades full of contradictions-SLFP

SLFP Treasurer and senior spokesman Minister Dallas Alahapperuma has pointed out that former Public Management Reforms Minister Navin Dissanayake (UPFA/SLFP) as well as Deputy Ministers, Palani Digambaram (UNP/National Workers’ Front) and V.S. Radhakrishnan (UPFA/CWC) having joined the Opposition campaign have given contradictory explanations with regard to their decision to quit the ruling coalition. All three represent the Nuwara Eliya District.

Digambaram switched his allegiance to President Mahinda Rajapaksa after having contested the last general election in April 2010 on the UNP ticket. Radhakrishnan deserted the CWC and joined the Up-country People’s Front (UPF) which teamed up with the UPFA.

Minister Alahapperuma was responding to a query at a recent media briefing held at SLFP headquarters, at T.B. Jayah Mawatha.

National List MP Alahapperuma said that Dissanayake and the Digambaram and Radhakrishnan duo had unwittingly exposed the discrepancy in their position as regards funding for the Nuwara Eliya district.

Addressing the media at Sirikotha, MP Dissanayake said that his attempts to discuss problems faced by the people of Nuwara Eliya District had been futile. The MP alleged that President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government had deprived him and Minister C.B. Ratnayake of required funding though Tamil politicians representing the district were given resources. Dissanayake revealed that he wanted the government to provide adequate funds to Minister Ratnayake if it resented giving him the needed financial resources. MP Dissanayake alleged that their efforts hadn’t been successful over the past four years.

However, Digambaram and Radhakrishnan told the media several days after Dissanayake move, that the government didn’t address their grievances. They alleged that the government had done nothing for the Tamil people living in the Nuwara Eliya electoral district. Addressing the media at the Opposition Leader’s office, they spoke glowingly about reaching an understanding with Opposition presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena.
