By Ifham Nizam

The Philatelic Bureau  would issue two stamps, a first day cover and miniature sheet today to commemorate the visit of Pope Francis,.

Postmaster General Rohana Abeyrathne told The Island that the stamps would be of the denomination of Rs. 10.00 and Rs. 75.00.

The stamps would be released at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of Pope Francis, President Maithripala Sirisena, distinguished delegates from the Vatican and the Catholic Church representatives.

Meanwhile, collectors worldwide are eagerly waiting to secure stamps portraying the Pope.

Pope Francis embarks on his second Asian pilgrimage this coming week, visiting Sri Lanka today and the Philippines exactly 20 years after St. John Paul II’s record-making visit to the two countries with wildly disparate Catholic populations. Thousands of devotees are here to witness the visit of one of the most popular popes.
