Two teams from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have commenced two separate investigations into alleged attack on Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga’s vehicle in Beruwala before the election and disappearance of vehicles belonging to Presidential Secretariat (PS) after the election, police spokesman said yesterday.

SSP Ajith Rohana said a CID team headed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) had been appointed on Wednesday to investigate the attack on CBK’s vehicle.

The CID would also investigate how fuel had been used, who was involved in releasing the vehicles belonging to the PS during the election for campaigning and allied issues, the SSPā€ˆsaid.

He emphasised that the inventory of the vehicles had not been maintained properly but every effort would be made to trace the missing vehicles.

The police had so far recorded a statement from the then Transport Director of the PS as to how many vehicles were there, the procedure used by him to release vehicles and how they had been released to various persons, the SSP said.
