Former PM’s son barred from leaving the country

The Gampola Magistrate yesterday barred former Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne’s son, Central Provincil Councillor Anuradha Jayaratne and three others from leaving the country over the alleged attack on an office of the then Common Opposition Candidate Maithripala Sirisena set up in the area and damaging it by shooting.


Police Media Unit (PMU) said that the Jayaratne surrendered to the Gampola Police station yesterday  morning with three others and when they were produced before the Magistrate all four had been released on cash bail of Rs. 50,000 each and surety bail of Rs. 1 mn each.


The case was put off to March 20, PMU said. The other suspects are Gampola UPFA urban councillor Tharanga Wittachchi, Uda Palatha UPFA PS member Sumudu Bandara and a VIP security officer.
