Rajitha ready to grant docs their dues

Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne yesterday vowed that he would never allow narrow-minded and baseless trade unions in the Health Sector to achieve their selfish objectives.

Dr. Senaratne pointed out that the GMOA had decided to launch a strike this month over the non-implementation of the provisions in the National Wage Policy. He was aware that the due increases announced by 2015 budget by the then Finance Minister had not been added to the doctors’ salary of January 2015.

The doctors deserved the professional salary allowances and the salary ratio included in the 2015 budget. Neither the salary increments nor the salary increases announced in the 2015 budget had been scrapped by the new interim budget announced by the present government, he said.

The Health Minister said that GMOA President Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya had met him last Friday over the salary issue and the latter had been assured that doctors would receive the salary increments and the allowances in keeping with the National Wage Policy. He would never hesitate to grant the legitimate rights and privileges of the doctors as he was fully aware of the issues pertaining to the medical profession. He would ensure that all the due increases as well as increments due to doctors would be added to their February salaries, he said.
