The General Secretary of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party Minister Tissa Vitharana on Tuesday said that the party, at its recent convention, decided to be an ally of the UPFA government National List MP Vitharana said that the LSSP had agreed with the UPFA’s post-war development initiatives.
"Our primary concern is poverty alleviation and provision of immediate relief to those struggling to make ends meet. We as a party always fought for the rights of the deprived and the working class," Minister Vitharana said.
Responding to a query by the media, the Minister said that the LSSP would consider issue by issue when extending its support to the ruling coalition.
MP Vitharana emphasised the need to adopt modern technology to fulfill the dream of becoming a developed country. He added that the UPFA government had accepted some of the proposals he had made in adopting modern technology.
"We have to add a high value to the raw materials we export and to achieve this we need to go hi-tech," he said.
The MP denied allegations that the party had overlooked seniors and given prominence to newcomers.
"At the last Convention there was a proposal to oppose the Rajapaksa government and it was defeated with an overwhelming majority," Vitharana said.
In December the LSSP would celebrate its 75th anniversary and the celebrations will be held at the NYSC auditorium in Maharagama, he said.
