Additional Solicitor General Yasantha Kodagoda appointed President’s Counsel

Additional Solicitor General Yasantha Kodagoda was appointed a President’s Counsel by President Maithripala Sirisena recently. An illustrious Old Boy of Ananda College, Colombo, Kodagoda completed his legal education at the Sri Lanka Law College and earned his Postgraduate degree from the University College London (UCL), United Kingdom.


He joined the Attorney General’s Department as a State Counsel in February 1989 and later obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Forensic Medicine and Sciences from the University of Colombo. He also obtained a Masters Degree (LL.M.) in Public International Law from the University College London (UCL). He has also served several leading institutions including Sri Lanka Law College as a lecturer of Law.


He was Promoted Senior State Counsel in 1999. He has also functioned as the Attorney General’s Counsel in several Commissions of Inquiry including the Vijaya Kumaratunga Assassination Commission, Batalanda Torture Chambers Commission and the Commission to investigate and inquire into serious violations of Human Rights.
