President Maithripala Sirisena will meet all constituent parties of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) this evening to discuss constitutional reforms and arrangements for the forthcoming general election.

Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva said that the draft constitutional reforms proposed by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party would be presented to the UPFA at today’s meeting schedule to start at 4.30pm at the party head office.

Silva said that the SLFP’s constitutional reforms committee headed by him had already handed over the draft to party Central Committee and the party’s parliamentary group. "We expect to discuss our proposals with the UPFA constituent parties as they will contest the next election too under the UPFA banner," he said, adding that new office bearers of the UPFA and Executive Committee would also be appointed today.

According to the UPFA constitution, the SLFP leader automatically became the Chairman of the UPFA as it was the biggest political party in the alliance, Silva said.

The Badulla District MP said that the SLFP also expected to meet other parties who were not in the UPFA Executive Committee later on.
