Cabinet balloons to 40 as 26 more SLFPers luck out

Number of ministers rise to 77 with five more State Ministers and 10 deputies



The number of Cabinet, State and Deputy ministers rose to 77 yesterday as 26 SLFPers were sworn in before President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat. There are 11 new Cabinet ministers, five state ministers and 10 deputy ministers. With the latest addition the number of Cabinet ministers has increased to 40, state ministers to 14 and the deputy ministers to 23.


The 11 new cabinet ministers


A.H.M. Fowzie (Disaster Management), S.B. Navinna (Labour), Piyasena Gamage (Skills Development and Vocational Training), Dr Sarath Amunugama (Higher Education and Research), S.B. Dissanayake (Rural Economic Affairs), Janaka Bandara Tennakoon (Provincial Councils and Regional Development), Felix Perera (Special Projects), Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena (Parliament Affairs), Reginald Cooray (Aviation Services), Vijith Vijayamuni Zoysa (Irrigation) and Mahinda Amaraweera (Fisheries).


The five new state ministers


Pavithradevi Wanniarachchi (Environment), Jeevan Kumaratunga (Labour), Mahinda Samarasinghe (Finance), C.B. Ratnayake (Public Administration and Democratic governance) and Dilan Perera (Housing and Samurdhi).


The new deputy ministers


Tissa Karalliyadda (Buddha Sasana and Democratic Governance), Dayashritha Tissera (Fisheries), Ranjith Siyambalapitiya (Home Affairs), Lakshaman Seneviratne (Disaster Management), Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena (Aviation Services), Lalith Dissanayake (Irrigation), Jagath Pushapakumara (Plantations), Lasantha Alagiyawanna (Rural Economic Affairs), Dr Sudarshani Fernandopulle (Higher Education and Research) and Shantha Bandara (Mass Media).
