Kiriella proposes road through Udawattekele reserve

KANDY – Former Mayor and member of the Kandy Municipal Council Raja Pushpakumara (UNP) told its meeting last Friday (27) that it had been proposed to construct a motorable road through the Udawattekele forest reserve to connect Tennekumbura road at Buwelikada as an alternative to road that has been closed for vehicular traffic near Sri Dalada Maligawa.


Raja Pushpakumara told the council meeting that the proposal for the construction of the road had emanated from the Plantation Industries Minister Lakshman Kiriella.


Pushpakumara said that the road would be constructed with minimum damage to the environment of Udawattekele forest reserve.


Deputy Mayor Sena Dissanayake Chaired the meeting. A former Mayor and member of the Municipal Council Suminda Wickremasinghe (UNP) stressed that the road by the Sri Dalada Maligawa should be re-opened for vehicular traffic.
