There are around 75,000 persons employed as professionals in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry in Sri Lanka at present. By the year 2020, the demand for ICT professionals will zoom to around 200,000 to take the country’s economy to greater heights.

These observations were made by Dr. Dayan Rajapakse, Managing Director, ESOFT Metro Campus, at the ceremonial opening of the new Computer Laboratory at the Kottukachchiya Maha Vidyalaya, Puttalam.

ESOFT Metro Campus, which has launched the ‘E-Thilina’ community service oriented initiative in partnership with Sirasa Television, donated the forth fully-fledged, Computer Laboratory with internet and other modern facilities to the Kottukachchiya Maha Vidyalaya in Puttalam, recently.

Under this Esoft-Sirasa collaboration, a deserving school is provided with a fully-equipped Computer Laboratory every month on the basis that such a vital facility is unavailable despite the presence of students either clever at IT (Information Technology) or keen to pursue the subject as part of their educational curricular and for professional advancement in the long-term.

The maiden Computer Laboratory under this ongoing initiative was donated to Kumbukwewa Maha Vidyalaya at Ibbagamuwa, Kurunegala, while the second facility was provided to Sevamuktha Kandoru Navodya Maha Vidyalaya at Polonnaruwa and the third to Dombagoda Maha Vidyalaya at Ahangama, Matara.

Speaking further, Dr. Dayan Rajapakse said that there is an abundance of highly paid jobs for students who opt for ICT as a subject while pursuing their higher studies. It is with the key objective of encouraging students to make an informed choice and opt for ICT as a subject for a rewarding career that ESOFT Metro Campus teamed up with Sirasa Television to launch the ‘E-Thilina’ community service oriented initiative.
