The Colombo Crime Division has launched an investigation into a complaint that thousands of carrom boards worth Rs. 39 million imported by Sathosa have gone missing.

The investigators said recreational equipment had been imported by the CWE on behalf of a powerful politician of the previous government.

"He ordered the carrom boards via the CWE giving false names," a CCD senior officer said.

A CWE storekeeper has said that he signed the vouchers claiming acceptance of the goods though he never saw them.

The police said the arrest of some prominent and powerful persons was imminent.
