GMOA complains of delay in appointing  consultant to tackle CKD

By Don Asoka Wijewardena

A delay in appointing a medical consultant to monitor the chronic kidney disease preventive measures and screening of kidney patients in the North Central Province had caused a grave problem, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) said yesterday.

GMOA National Health Issue Sub- Committee member Dr. Chinthaka Wijewardena told The Island that the need for assigning a community medicine consultant to handle the task could not be overemphasised.

Although Medical officers had been appointed to each MOH Division the supervision and monitoring of their activities should be duly monitored by a community medicine consultant, the GMOA office bearer said.

Health Secretary Dr D. M. R. B. Dissanayaka, contacted for comment, said a consultant doctor had already been appointed and he would be assuming duties in a few days.
