SLFP to call for nomination applications soon

The SLFP would soon call for applications from those desirous of contesting the upcoming parliamentary election, SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said yesterday.

Addressing the media at the SLFP headquarters in Colombo, Yapa said that the members of the nomination board would be named in the near future and interviews would commence shortly.

The SLFP believed that the election should be held after the 20th Amendment to the Constitution was passed, Yapa said.

UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha alleged that the UNP was trying to remand several UPFA MPs before upcoming parliamentary election.

Premajayantha said the government had got former Minister Jonston Fernando over alleged financial irregularizes but set Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran responsible for the biggest financial scandal in the country.

He also stressed that the issue would be taken up at the coming inter-parliamentary union summit.

Highlighting Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's recent statement regarding former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's FR petition, Premajayantha said the Sri Lankan Supreme Court's decision was final and there was no need to seek Commonwealth Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association's (CMJA) stance.
