Most hospital administrators want their institutions taken over by government - Health Minister

Most hospital administrators wanted their institutions to be taken over by the government, Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said. But, he did not discriminate between hospitals run by provincial councils and those under the government, he said recently at the foundation stone laying ceremony for a Maternity Clinic at the Alutgama Rural Hospital. The project is funded by Korean firm Myeomg Dong Asia (Pvt) Ltd.

Minister Senaratne said he had no intention to take over any hospital. During the previous regime the authorities had taken over a ground at Payagala claiming that it wanted to develop it at a cost of Rs.50 million. In the near future another well-equipped hospital would be constructed in Panadura funded by the German government. He would seek Cabinet approval for that project, the Health Minister said.

Another Children’s hospital would also be constructed in Kalutara with the assistance of the Dutch government. By this venture congestion in hospitals in the district could be minimized, he said.
