Muslim MPs propose retired Justice Salam to CC

From M. A. Kaleel, Kalmunai Corr.

Muslim parliamentarians have proposed retired President of the Court of Appeal Justice A. W. A. Salam to the Constitutional Council according to Deputy Minister and Secretary General of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress I. Hassan Ali.

He said a letter to that effect had been sent to Prime Minister’s office yesterday morning.

SLMC Leader Rauf Hakeem has praised the nomination of TNA Leader R. Sampanthan to the CC as the representative of minority parties in Parliament.

Meanwhile, Hakeem has also called for the appointment of a Muslim to the CC to represent the Muslim Community.

The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka has also raised its serious concern over the non-appointment of a Muslim to the CC. In their appeal to the Prime Minister they have said the Muslims have faced serious threats over the past decade and they were instrumental in the 2015 for the regime change and they should be accommodated in the CC.
