Three boys drown in Kalu Ganga

Three GCE A/L students of Tissa Central College, Kalutara North drowned in the Kalu Ganga at the Gale Ferry crossing, Duwegoda on Saturday.

The school authorities said the victims had played truant on that day. They had told their parents that they were attending a private tuition class bath gone for a bath in the river.

The victims were Lindawalage Sathira Ramesh de Silva (18) and Anjula Upendra Soysa (17) of Ikilikandawatte, Wilegoda and  Bethge Mudiyanselage Buddhika Eranga (17) of Kalutara North.

The Kalutara North police said that the residents in the area had seen a motorcycle near the bank of the river with schoolbags scattered around and no sign of its owners and informed the police.

Thereafter the police alerted the Navy life guards on duty at the Kalutara bridge and the navy along with the assistance of  police personnel were able to trace the victims.

Two of them were dead on admission to Kalutara hospital, while the other died in the ICU of the hospital.

A resident of Panapitiya, A. Nandawathi said that she had the victims bathing in the river disappear.

Then she alerted her neighbours and police were informed.
