KANDY –

The UNP would not give nominations to those who had deserted the party in the Kandy District, said Plantation Industries Minister Lakshman Kiriella yesterday (28).

Speaking at the Lak Wanitha Convention at the Kandy headquarters of the United National Party (UNP) Kiriella said the Opposition was in total disarray and that the SLFP led Opposition would suffer a severe defeat at the forthcoming general election.

Those who had left the UNP would be denied party nominations to contest the forthcoming general election, Minister Kiriella said, adding that the UNP administration during the past 150 days under the 100 day programme had completed a vast number of programmes and projects that no other previous government had been able to.

The UNP government during the short period gave relief to the people, while the Opposition objected to the projects and proposals by the government, he said.

The international community had recognised Sri Lanka as a civilised country and many world leaders had visited it while the UNP-led government was in power, Kiriella said, urging the party supporters to work hard to ensure the UNP victory.
