‘Everything is hard, before it's made easy’


Farill Farook a product a of Royal College Colombo, commenced his career as an entrepreneur at the age 20 with three of his friends collaborating towards www.conceptnursery.com, Sri Lanka's first incubator launching www.parliamentelecttions.com, an online website transmitting elections results LIVE and via W@P mobile. The website was approved by the Elections Commissioner and sponsored by Dialog. The website comprised of over 250 interactive pages and was a huge success.

"The next project we embarked on was designing an online distance learning software; Apex Study, to conduct live classes from Colombo and Kandy at the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), the prototype product was ahead of time for Sri Lanka in 2001 and we eventually sold this to a UK client," Farook said.

Among his other successful projects are coordinating and conducting management workshops for the public with participation of a leading management guru from India and digital media animation for TV commercials and corporate profiles. A serial entrepreneur, sales and communication specialist, editor and motivational speaker, Farook holds over 15 years of work experience, both locally and internationally. His core strengths include motivation, self discovery, overcoming adversity, and creating winning strategies. His motto in life is 'everything is hard before it's made easy,' which is a reflection on the success of his personal life.

Being a passionate marketing and sales personality, he moved into the advertising and public relations space and represented Cameron Pale and Medina as PR and Communications Manager and managed key accounts like Associated Motorways' (Pvt) Ltd and CIC Lanka. He also played a key role in the transformation of the Clipsal-Orange break up, providing a timely crisis management plan and developing the brand Orange, which is a leading branding the market today.

Farill later joined Phoenix Ogilvy and Mather Worldwide as an Account Manager and managed the corporate accounts of Dialog Telekom Group, Hemas (Clogard), and Glaxo Smithkline (Glucolin and Haliborange). He has also held marketing and sales roles for leading corporation from iOm Lanka, ORG Marg Smart Research, Neptune Papers (a subsidiary of Expo Lanka Group), and Mailman Lanka, an Australia-based company as the head of sales and marketing.

He launched 'Spotlight PR,' an advertising and PR company, which also provides email/SMS marketing services. In March 2010, he unveiled 'Colombo Things to Do' travel and lifestyle magazine. The magazine is based on professional news, views, and reviews on the best places to dine, wine, shop, stay, roam and party.
