Let’s bring back the country’s saviour voted out in Jan. due to conspiracy – Jagath Kumara

UPFA Colombo District candidate S. A.D. Jagath Kumara said that the US, Europe and West Asian countries had failed to eradicate terrorism, but former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who crushed the scourge of terrorism which ruined the country for 30-years, was voted out by the masses.

Addressing a pocket meeting at Akuregoda in the Kaduwela electorate Jagath Kumara said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in 2001 had signed an MoU with LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran paving the way for Tiger courts, police stations, banks and kachcheris.

"Those living in the South had to obtain ‘visa’ at the Omanthai LTTE check point to travel to the North and all that changed after Mahinda Rajapaksa was elected President in 2005; he gave unwavering political leadership to the war effort without being subservient to the dictates of the west and defeated the Tigers."

The UPFA candidate said the intention of the US and the western countries had been to pressure the Rajapaksa government to go for a ceasefire and allow Prabhakaran and other Tiger leaders to flee the country during the final stages of the ‘humanitarian operation’. But, Rajapaksa hadn’t acceded to their request, he stressed. "Those countries hatched a conspiracy with the help of anti-Sri Lankan elements here to defeat Mahinda Rajapaksa at the last Presidential election and achieved their goal.

"After the new government was elected, the development projects have come to a standstill and crime rate has increased and people find bodies in suitcases at bus stands.  It is only Mahinda Rajapaksa who can change the situation only after electing him Prime Minister at the forthcoming general election."
