Police Chief promises action against Deputy Minister

By Madura Ranwala

Inspector General of Police (IGP) N. K. Illangakoon is expected to take tough action against Deputy Justice Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe tomorrow after consulting the Attorney General and the Election Commissioner for some serious allegations levelled against him by the latter at a media briefing early this week.

Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera told The Island that the IGP had ordered that a case be filed against Deputy Justice Minister Senasinghe for he had undermined the office of the Police Chief to a great extent.

MP Senasinghe had already received notice from the Homagama Magistrate to appear before court for threatening a police sergeant at Athurugiriya in addition to several other charges.

The Deputy Minister has also asked the IGP to resign for allegedly failing to direct police officers to collect important evidence in the suspicious death of rugby star Mohammed Wasim Thajudeen, whose body is scheduled to be exhumed on August 10.
