A tense situation prevailed at Stace Pura in Grandpass yesterday following the death of a person who protested against the arrest of a woman for selling heroin.

A 65-year-old man who was protesting with a group of persons obstructing police carrying out their duty accidently slipped and fell into a gutter. He was salvaged by other protesters but was declared dead on admission to the hospital.

Protesters continued to shout slogans and accusing the police of killing persons. They burnt tyres on the road and obstructed traffic. Police summoned the STF and diverted traffic. Later on a group of people also held a demonstration opposite the Grandpass police station against the incident.
