GMOA supports pay hike for state employees

By Dilanthi Jayamanne

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), which met Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake yesterday prior to next month’s budget proposals for 2016, said it would fully support a pay hike for state employees.

GMOA Secretary, Dr. Nalinda Herath said that the Executive Committee which had met Minister Karunanayke had impressed upon him however that the salaries of government servants should be increased in keeping with the National Salary Policy (NSP). The aim is to maintain the stability of the government service and to prevent ad hoc pay hikes.

Dr. Herath said that the GMOA had called for the salary compression ratio to be increased from 1:4 to 1:12 in 2016. He said that the difference between the salary of the minor hospital employee and the Health Secretary should be maintained at 1:12.

Dr. Herath said he thought the meeting had been a success although the Finance Minister had not commented on the proposal put forward by them."
