Police investigations into the alleged coup attempt at Temple Tress in the morning on Jan 09, 2015 had been completed, Law and Order and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayake told Parliament yesterday.

The report of the police investigations had been sent to the Attorney General for further instructions and the future course of action would be decided on the basis of AG’s advice, the Minister said, adding that the House would be kept informed of all details pertaining to the coup attempt soon.

The minister said so responding to a question raised by UPFA Matara District MP Dullas Alahapperuma.

Alahapperuma said that responsible politicians of the present government

had made various statements with regard to an alleged coup attempt and their statements had been given wide publicity in local and foreign media. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the government media spokesman at a post-Cabinet press briefing and in Parliament said that there had been such a coup attempt. Those statements had tarnished the name of the country, the MP said.

Ratnayake said he would give a response to the House very soon once the Attorney General’s Department sent its report.
