Leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya and Colombo District parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila yesterday said that the government had failed to deliver what it had promised to the masses and violated the Constitution from the very first day by appointing a new prime minister while there was already one.
Gammanpila addressing a news conference at its party office at Pita-Kotte said the government was on a witch-hunt against its opponents and the FCID was used for that purpose.
He said that following the Central Bank bond scam the stock exchange had virtually collapsed and the rupee had to be devalued to cover up the losses.
Even the International Monetary Fund had found fault with the government for its failure to develop the economy.
Gammanpila said his party would hoist black flags on Jan. 08 in protest against the government’s failure to deliver on its promises and its members would wear black.
The Colombo District MP said Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne and Foreign Employment Minister Thalatha Athukorale had threatened him with dire consequences if his party hoisted black flags and said that he would not yield to threats.
