SLFP Youth Front takes up Dematagoda abduction

By Maheesha Mudugamuwa

Youth Front of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (YF-SLFP) yesterday claimed that the government had failed to enforce the law in respect of the Colombo District UNP MP Hirunika Premachandra’s alleged involvement in the recent abduction at Dematagoda.

Addressing a press conference at the SLFP headquarters in Colombo, an Executive Committee member of YF-SLFP Rasika Deshapriya Attanayake stressed that the government should treat all citizens alike, but in the present instance it had given special treatment to Hirunika.

He said the MP should have been arrested over the abduction if the government had believed in the principle of equality before the law.

Meanwhile, YF-SLFP President former MP Shantha Bandara noted that MP Premachandra had contested the last general election on the UNP ticket.

He said the onus was on the government to ensure that the police enforced the law without fear or favour.

Bandara also said the member of the SLFP should not act in a manner which would lead to the division of the party.
