Chandra Ranaraja dead

KANDY – Chandra Ranaraja, a former mayoress and member of the Kandy Municipal Council passed away at the age of 77 on Wednesday (02) night.

She was the wife of the late Shelton Ranaraja, who had been a Minister of Justice.

Mrs. Ranaraja was a mother of five daughters. One of them is a diplomat, another is married to Central Provincial Council member and the recently appointed SLFP Chief Organiser of Senkadagala electorate Tilina Bandara Tennakoon.

Chandra Ranaraja from the Mahadivulwewa family of Anuradhapura was educated at Hillwood College, Kandy. After graduating from the University of Peradeniya she joined teaching staff of Girls’ High School, Kandy.

Later she took to local politics and was elected to the Kandy Municipal Council.

Her remains are lying at her Rajapihilla Mawatha residence. Cremation will take place at Mahaiyawa at 10.00 am on Saturday.
