... seeks interim relief by way of preventing illegal arrest

A fundamental rights violation application filed by former Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa, complaining of a possible unlawful arrest by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division, will be supported in court on June 8, 2016.

Yesterday, the petitioner requested the court to grant him time to file further documents to explain his complaint fully.

The petition said that the FCID had filed complaints in four Magistrate’s Courts referring to five events involving the petitioner. The allegations were baseless and the FCID was likely to arrest him once again. The petitioner wanted the court to grant him interim relief by way of preventing an illegal arrest.

Gamini Marapana P.C. appeared with Navin Marapana for the petitioner. The Deputy Solicitor General Nerin Pulle appeared for the state.

The Bench comprised Chief Justice K. Sripavan, Justice Anil Gooneratne and Justice K. T. Chitrasiri.
