Lanza urges President to act against Minister

* Demolition of Wattala jogging track

Home Affairs Deputy Minister Nimal Lanza has requested President Maithripala Sirisena to launch an inquiry into the conduct of a minister allegedly behind the demolition of a jogging track and causing damage to public property resulting in a loss of public money atWattala recently.


"I ask President Sirisena to conduct an investigation and to implement the law against the minister responsible for this crime," Deputy Minister Lanza told The Island yesterday.


The Deputy Minister said that he knew the persons involved in the demolition of the walking track and he had evidence to prove their involvement.


Lanza said that a minister from the Wattala area had been involved in destroying the track. The minister had got involved in this act to enable a private institution to construct a housing scheme. There was a financial transaction between the minister and the said institution, he alleged.
